Making the web not suck for a while now.

The Shavees

This past Saturday, me and nine other brave souls from AE made it out to Claddah’s in the Southside to have our heads shaved for the St. Baldrick’s charity event.

It was an awesome time. They had live music, beer, and droves of people shaving their heads. Definitely a very cool way to raise some dough for an important issue. They let me shave my hair into a mohawk (I’m the second from the right), and even died it green for me!

St. Baldrick’s is the world’s largest volunteer-driven fundraising event for childhood cancer research. Thousands of volunteers shave their heads in solidarity of children with cancer, while requesting donations of support from friends and family. In 2008, St. Baldrick’s events were hosted in 48 U.S. states, in addition to Australia, Bermuda, Brazil, Canada, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Iraq, Mexico, Northern Ireland, and the United Kingdom and more events are signing up daily as the movement continues to spread. Since the first event in 2000, St. Baldrick’s volunteers have raised over $50 million for life-saving research. Pretty badass.

Definitely doing this one next year.

Alas, I will be on sandy beaches in Hawaii this week, but everyone else should check this out. Refresh Pittsburgh and On the Fridge, LLC. are putting on this nifty one day conference centered on web design. It will showcase some serious talent from the Pittsburgh area, as all the speakers are local to here. If you want to keep up on the web design scene here in the burgh, this is the place to go.

Welcome to The Pitt

Welcome to The Pitt

This is unbelievably über kickass. Bethesda’s Fallout 3 has set their next expansion pack, titled “The Pitt” in post apocalyptic Pittsburgh. If you look at the pic above, you can clearly see that this is one of the sister bridges, possibly the Roberto Clemente. It looks like the jacked the city up a bit though, as the Highmark building looks like its too far east, and what is possibly the steel building is way too close to the bridge…

Painting of my Gram and Pap

Finally finished this thing!

These are my grandparents on my mother’s side. I hung out a good bit with them when I was little, and they were two of the most selfless people I’ve ever known. I’ve called these paintings Baucis and Philemon, based on the Greek legend, telling of the generosity of the couple. I hope you guys dig, feel free to give me any crits in the comments!

Stats:

Acrylic on wood.
For my Gram’s body, I used a stock photo by the talented Kechake-stock. Thanks!

Muey props Poster Boy, wherever you are.

broken jetta key ring
I drive a 2002 Jetta, which has this super cool flippy key that has the power to unite all races under one banner.

This, however, cannot be complete without a key ring. The chrome bar that comes attached really doesn’t do the job, and mine broke a while back. The folks at VWvortex forums were quick to provide a DIY fix, which I’ve done my best to chronicle.

No pun intended, sickos.

Get your mind out of the gutter.

Seriously.

Today I tried to get on Google docs and WHAM! I’m hit smack in the face with this two by four of awesomeness.

I wonder who translates for them, or if they do it in house. I don’t even know what most of these languages are!
Google Goes Down

No matter which angle they show, Santonio is still in bounds, destroying the hearts and souls of Cardinal fans everywhere.

This is awesome. Definitely what the web was created for.
